ESG: Rating regulation

The ESG Rating regulation on the transparency and integrity of ESG rating activities was passed by the European Parliament on April 24, 2024.
It will apply 18 months after its publication in the Official Journal to ESG ratings issued by ESG rating providers operating in the EU.
From 2026, this ESG rating regulation will require ESG rating providers to be authorized by ESMA to operate in the Union, and to comply with a number of fairness, transparency and governance standards. ESG rating providers are legal entities whose activity includes issuing and publishing or distributing ESG ratings on a professional basis.
